“Find it @ EIU” becomes “Get Full Text” …and you get your articles faster!

You might notice a slight change in the way you retrieve articles from the library databases this semester.

For the past several years Booth Library has been using a service we call  finditatEIU. You see it when your database search returns a citation to an article but not the full-text.

Screenshot 2015-08-26 14.24.47

The “find it” service allowed you to search across Booth’s  journal holdings to see if we had an electronic version of the article you need.

If we did, finditatEIU provided a link to it.

If we didn’t, finditatEIU  gave you option to request the article through Interlibrary Loan.*

Now we have get full text logo image. It is the same service, but improved!

“Get Full Text” brings the article a step closer to you.

If you are searching in a database like Article First, Philosopher’s IndexAmerica: History and Life, and even Google Scholar**,

and you see the    logo, just click it.

You will immediately be whisked directly to the full article.

If we do not have electronic access to the article, you’ll be presented with a menu of options.

It is a small, barely noticeable change, but get full text logo image is one of those little differences that show you how the librarians are working hard for the EIU community to make access to information as quick and seamless as we possibly can.

*Interlibrary loan is the service we provide in which you can get books or articles from virtually anywhere free of charge. See library.eiu.edu/ill for more information or to place a request.
**Even off campus google scholar will connect to EIU’s get full text logo image if you know how to set it up. Ask the librarians for more information.

Bugs?
“Ewww!”  Is this your reaction to these creepy critters?  Don’t be so quick to dismiss them. Insects are important and some are even beautiful, such as the monarch butterfly.  Whether you love them or hate them, they live among us…just listen to the cicadas! Explore this display in the 3000 level hallway for all things creepy and crawly or follow the links below for more information about any of the listed books.

A Culture of Kindness

It seems lately that there are lots of people around who don’t treat each other very well. These books for children and young adults, “promote tolerance… and support the transformative power of kindness.” Selected by Professor and Reference Librarian Ann Brownson from an article by Amina Chaudhri in the September, 2014 issue of Booklist. All of these books are available in Booth Library’s Ballenger Teacher’s Center. Chaudhri’s article provides a synopsis and suggests classroom activities aligned with common core.
