Bradley Tolppanen, former head of Circulation Services at Booth Library, began his new duties as interim dean on July 1.
Tolppanen has been employed at Booth Library since 1999, when he was hired as a reference librarian. He was appointed as the head of Circulation Services in 2000 and serves as the subject bibliographer for history, Africana studies and military science.
Prior to his work at Booth Library, Tolppanen was a humanities reference librarian at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and a reference/instruction librarian at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Tolppanen earned a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Calgary, a master of arts degree in history from the University of New Brunswick, and a master’s degree in library and information studies from the University of Alberta.
Tolppanen is the author of “Churchill in North America, 1929: A Three Month Tour of Canada and the United States.” He lives in Charleston with his family.
Tolppanen took over the duties of dean of library services following the retirement of Dr. Allen Lanham, who served as dean for almost 26 years.
