Allen Lanham, dean of library services, Booth Library, was recently elected as a councilor to the American Library Association.
Lanham was elected to represent the Illinois Library Association at ALA. His three-year term begins July 1.
Lanham has served as professor and dean of library services at Eastern since 1991. Previously he served as associate professor of music and former chairman of the Music Department at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico from 1976-1991 and was an instrumental music teacher for the Union County Schools in Kentucky in 1975-76.
He earned an MS in library and information science from University of Illinois in 1991, a Ph.D. in music education from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in 1987, an MME in music education from Arkansas State University in 1975, and a BME in music education from Murray State University in 1974.
He has been a member of the Illinois Library Association since 1991 and served as president in 2004-05. He was named Academic Librarian of the Year in 2008.
