Librarian authors’ work is downloaded around the world

Posted on January 29th, 2015

The scholarly impact of The Keep is measured in worldwide downloads.

A university in Lagos, Nigeria. A library in Turapati, India. A cafe in Medan, Indonesia. Along the banks of the Seine, near Notre Dame.
What do these places have in common? They were all locations where the research and scholarship of Booth Library faculty members Todd Bruns, Kirstin Duffin and Steve Brantley were downloaded in the past week.Screenshot 2015-01-28 22.14.33 The Keep, Eastern’s institutional repository, collects the research and scholarship of participating faculty, making it available to scholars around the world. To date over 350,000 downloads of over 37,000 documents have increased EIU’s national and international visibility and worldwide scholarly impact.

As part of the international Digital Commons Network  participating EIU faculty regularly appear on monthly “Most Popular Author” Top Ten lists in areas including:

Paper in Three Dimensions: The Art of Origami

Posted on January 23rd, 2015

Polyhedron in Origami Origami, the traditional art of Japanese paper folding, is an area where art, mathematics, education, and elegance intersect.   To learn more about this intriguing art form, consult one of the books in Booth’s origami exhibit, on display in the 3rd floor south hallway during January and early February 2015. A Constellation of Origami Polyhedra

These colorful titles have lots of illustrations that will help you create your own animals, flowers, or other works of geometric art.  Some are geared towards beginners, some focus on their use in advanced mathematics, and others show how origami can be used as a classroom teaching tool.

Dr. King’s dream

as the greatest demonstration for freedom
in the history of our nation.”

The many speeches, letters, and sermons of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are among the most famous in all American History. Much has been written about them (as witnessed by the small sample of books from Booth collections listed below), and today we can see or hear many of these famous appearances on demand.

Booth’s electronic encyclopedias can provide credible, authoritative
information on Dr. King, the Dream speech, civil rights, and other topics related to the man and his legacy.

Also available on your screen via Booth’s streaming video collections is the Universal Newsreel footage of contemporary news coverage of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and Dr. King’s speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. See it embedded below, or visit the Alexander Street Press Website for the video plus a full searchable transcript and video editing and annotation tools. Several other relevant videos are also available.
