A Question of History: Public History in Illinois, Mid March 2017
The people and institutions that preserve history and culture have histories of their own. As we approach Illinois’ bicentennial year students and faculty in the Graduate Program in Historical Administration will address the cyclical nature of public interest and investment in state and local history in a two-semester project that will result in a virtual archive of their findings, a temporary public exhibit at Booth Library, and related public programming. Remembering the place of these public historical institutions in Illinois’ intellectual and cultural history is a meaningful way to observe the approaching state bicentennial.
